What to do if You Find Ants in Your Kitchen

|

Yuma Pest Blog

House ants can make it into your property through tiny entry points that can be difficult to spot. Killing one ant isn’t usually enough, as there will typically be a colony nearby. The following is what to do if you find ants in your home.

Find the Entry Point

Tiny cracks and crevices throughout your home serve as entry points for ants. Identify where they’re coming from and seal it up. This will ensure that no more ants are coming in, and it will make it much easier to deal with the ants that are inside.

Destroy the Nest

Try to find where the ant nest is located outdoors and use a non-repellent insecticide to destroy it. Using a repellent will cause the ants to disperse and start a new colony elsewhere. A non-repellent insecticide will kill the ants without them realizing they’re poisoned, which will deal with the problem long-term.

Set Traps

There are a variety of effective traps on the market that you can set throughout your kitchen to attract and kill ants. Position these traps near the entry point, so that the ants will reach it as soon as possible. Remove any food sources near the traps to increase the chances that they will take the bait.

Prevention

There are several things that you can do to prevent ants from invading your kitchen. Regularly clean any counters and tables and vacuum any food crumbs and scraps from your floor. Clear out any excess moisture on the floor to avoid providing ants with enough hydration to survive. Keep a lid on your garbage cans and make sure to take them out often.

Hire a Professional

If you find that any of the above methods of removing ants from your kitchen isn’t working, consider hiring a professional pest control service. It’s a great way to quickly deal with the problem, as well as preventing ants from coming back in the future.
