Yuma Pest Blog

Cockroaches are one of the biggest pest offenders this time of year. Not only can they survive just about anything, but it seems like they can make it through even the smallest of cracks. With that, once they get into your house, it seems like they can be impossible to get rid of.

Here are a few of our top tips for keeping cockroaches out of your home.

Clean-up Moisture

Cockroaches love moisture and warm, damp places. Make sure that you clean up any water or spills around your house to cut off the water supply for cockroaches. Be sure to clean up beneath your sinks, in your bathroom and in the cabinets of your kitchen just to be sure.

Keep Your Food Sealed

Cockroaches have heightened senses for finding food in your home. Even if you have a slight opening in a cereal box or bag of chips, cockroaches will find their way into it. To prevent them from invading and getting into your food, make sure that you keep all of the food in your house sealed in airtight containers and bags.

Do Your Dishes

Dirty dishes that are left in your sink are another huge attraction for cockroaches. Make sure that you keep your sink empty of dirty dishes and that you run your dishwasher regularly to keep cockroaches out of your kitchen.

Vacuum

Cockroaches can pick up on even the slightest crumb of food that you leave out. Even nearly microscopic crumbs of food are enough incentive for cockroaches to flood your kitchen or any room in your house. To prevent them from doing that, be sure to vacuum regularly.

Clean Kitchen Counters and Floors

Kitchen counters are prone to spills and crumbs. In fact, kitchen counters and floors are some of the first places that many families spot cockroaches. Make sure that you wipe down your counters and kitchen floors thoroughly, especially after meals. Cockroaches love any bit of food and drink they can sink their teeth into, but keeping your floors and counters clean is another effective way to keep them out of your home.

Wash Your Clothes Regularly

Cockroaches can even be drawn to food and spills that cling to your clothes, along with the dirt, moisture and bacteria on them. Don’t let your laundry hamper get too full, and be sure to wash your clothes regularly.
